Materiality analysis tool
Awake has partnered with one of Australia’s most respected sustainability reporting consultants, ZOOiD, to develop an exciting new innovation in materiality analysis. The Materiality Analysis Tool (MAT) is a customisable survey that provides a fast, robust and actionable analysis of what your stakeholders believe to be the most material sustainability topics for your organisation.
Why use the MAT?
- The MAT applies a quantitative and robust methodology to ensure your materiality analysis is based on solid evidence and truly reflects the views of your stakeholders
- By using a survey-based approach, the MAT is resource and cost-efficient, reducing the need for costly and time-intensive focus groups and interviews
- Results can be mapped and reported against best-practice frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative.
- A unique feature of the MAT is the inclusion of a weighted performance measure, providing direction on the key priorities for improving sustainability performance from a stakeholder perspective
How does the MAT work?
- Topics included in the analysis are customised in consultation with the client, to ensure sector and organisational relevance
- Stakeholder groups complete an online survey, including weighting of categories, ranking of sustainability topics, and rating of current organisational performance
- The analysis incorporates a weighting algorithm and gap analysis to identify both the materiality of topics, and priorities for improvement.
What do I get from the MAT?
Your comprehensive MAT report includes:
- A summary matrix of your most material topics, according to your stakeholders
- A gap analysis identifying materiality vs perceived performance, so that any deficiencies in the most material topics are highlighted for action
- A breakdown of the results for each stakeholder group
- A mapping of findings against your preferred reporting framework(s)
projects
Yarra Valley Water
Awake and ZOOiD implemented a customised version of the MAT to support the development of YVW’s strategy. One notable aspect of this assignment was the incorporation of data from various sources of existing stakeholder research into the final analysis and report.
“Insights from the analysis…has deepened our understanding of what sustainability impacts are important to these stakeholders and complemented how we plan for our next business strategy”.
Aluminium Bahrain
Aluminium Bahrain has used the MAT to provide input into the development of its sustainability report on two separate occasions.
“Using a custom-made version of the MAT for both reports allowed us to focus our efforts on what matters most to our stakeholders and that has resulted in delivering relevant and focused reports”
